Our relationship is just like this tree which is trying to survive the seasonal cycle - it doesn't stay evergreen but it is still beautiful when you find your way to appreciate it ...
In 2008 when Brandon moved to Hong Kong to stay with me and start a new home and new career, we were both very excited and nervous at the same time.
I still remember Brandon getting so sick on the plane the day he was leaving home. All he brought with him were me, a suitcase and a duffel bag. Our first week was crazy - we had apartment hunting day after day and the experience was more stressful than anything else. If a Chinese girl looks for a place with a western guy, she could be easily taken advantage of. They will NEVER speak English to him even if they can do so in a certain degree. So how did we deal with it? I had to pretend to not understand Cantonese. Then I had the advantage of knowing what the landlord and the real estate agent said when they thought that I had no clues. We got lucky that we finally met a very nice agent lady but I felt sorry on the day of signing our contract when I had to reveal the truth that I actually was a fluent Cantonese speaker :P Because of not being able to speak and understand my language, Brandon counted on me a lot in those 4 years. Little by little he could start to get some meaning out of the context. However, just before he could learn more, we had decided to move back to the States ... A new cycle began because this time I am the "fresh" and "innocent" one. Believe me, it takes tons of love and determination for someone to be willing to leave their familiar home and routines to start it all over again. Brandon proved his unconditional love for me. I am now doing the same for him! :)
